5 Games Where You Can Pet The Dog

Can I pet that dawg? YES! There is nothing more heart-breaking than wandering through a video game and finding a dog, only to discover that you can't even pet it. What kind of monster puts a dog in a game and doesn't add a bit of extra code so you can give it some love?? Disgusting behaviour to be frank. If you have been bitterly disappointed by games in the past, we have a little list of some games we love that allow you to pet the dog.

Dead By Daylight

The first dog you could pet was technically The Dark Lord in wolf form. Survivors can crouch and use their 'beckon' or 'point' emote to pet Dracula as he prances about as a wolf. Ok, yeah, he is supposed to be a dangerous beast but he is SO CUTE with his fluffy black fur and red eyes. Trying to pet The Dark Lord is dangerous as they aren't all happy to be tamed.

So aside from The Dark Lord in wolf form, the latest pettable dog in Dead By Daylight is The Houndmaster's dog, Snug. Survivors can try to pet Snug like they can with The Dark Lord, however, to pet him properly, you will have to play as The Houndmaster. Just send Snug out to chase, and let him return, and you will get a prompt to pet him.

New World Aeternum

As you explore New World Aeternum, you will see cats and dogs in the streets. It would take a special kind of evil to not let you pet the furry friends, and luckily the New World devs are not evil. You can go up to any dog in the game and pet them for as long as you like. 10/10 experience, would highly recommend.

There are no pets in the game, unless you pre-ordered the deluxe edition and unlocked the Mastiff house hound. The mastiff can be pet, dressed up, and is basically decor for your house after you hit level 20.

The Last Of Us 2

This is a tough one, as The Last of Us 2 does allow you to pet the dogs, and even play with them, but this is limited to one character. Ellie can pet one old dog when she goes to Jackson, but that's about it. Her other interactions with dogs are, let's say... Less than friendly.

The dog petting happens more when playing as Abby. She works with the WLF who breed defensive dogs, so she gets to pet and play with the furry beasts. Abby is able to play fetch and throw toys for some of the dogs she meets, as well as give them much-needed pets. The less said about Ellie's interactions with dogs, the better, I think.

Infinity Nikki

If you want to enjoy a more peaceful game and pet some adorable animals, Infinity Nikki has some of the best. After unlocking her animal grooming outfit, you can brush and fluff up most animals you find around the world, including dogs. At the moment there are two types of dog in Infinity Nikki - tiny fluffballs called Floofs and large St Bernard types called Bowlers. Petting and grooming each dog gives you much-needed resources, so you get some practical reward as well as just feeling all warm and squishy inside.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

Ubisoft knows what's up when it comes to dogs and cats in a game. They have made sure to allow players to pet the animals, which adds them to your pets collection, or you can purchase pets from a vendor and add them to your hideout. There are also quests to complete to unlock pets - our favorite is Thrown To The Dogs, where you end up bonding with the old stray dog, Tsuki-maru.
